You've seen his iconic performance of "Purple Rain", and it's probably the best Super Bowl halftime show EVER. But have you seen the movie "Purple Rain?" It's a must, and it's coming back to theaters for 1 night only this March.
March 5. The screenings will feature an experience with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos immersive audio, with the film digitally restored from an 8K scan of the original 35mm camera negative, (you know, all that fancy film talk lol.) and featuring a remastered audio presentation.
“Purple Rain reimagined in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for Dolby Cinema is a celebration of Prince’s genius and enduring legacy,” said Jed Harmsen, Head of Cinema and Group Entertainment at Dolby. “Devoted and new fans alike prepare to be exhilarated by an unforgettable and unparalleled performance from one of music’s greatest of all time.” This special screening comes just one year after Purple Rain‘s 40th anniversary, and arrives while Prince’s estate is in conversation with producer Orin Wolf to create a musical adaptation of the film for the stage
The story goes with Prince's Halftime performance, they told him it was going to rain and maybe he should cut it short. Prince said "can you make it rain harder?" and even if they couldn't control the weather, he came out and went full on god mode and blew everyone away to today.
If you get a chance on March 5th, go see Purple Rain in theatres. It will be worth the musical time machine you take your trip on back to the 80's.
