Could Making Beer Keep You Out Of Jail?

The Tap Social Movement in the United Kingdom aims to keep prisoners from re-offending by teaching them how to make ale. Sounds like a delicious idea.

“If you are leaving prison and you have a stable job with employers that genuinely care about your well-being, you immediately have the framework that enables you to rebuild your life,” co-founder Paul Humpherson said.

The organization set up a brewery specifically to employ ex-convicts, and reoffending rates among participants has decreased, see...a great idea. Of 50 ex-cons employed by Tap, only 6% have reoffended. The average in the UK is 50%. “You think you’ll never be treated with respect again when you first get out [of prison],” one employee said. “But Tap, they restored my faith.”
