How much do you need extra sleep? What would you give up to get it?A new survey, 45% of respondents would be willing to give up the Internet for a full year to get an extra hour of sleep a night. That would be a bit much, but the poll of 2000 US adults reveals just what people could do without.
- Americans may be willing to go to those extremes for more rest because 48% say they feel tired earlier when the sun sets earlier in the day.
- For six in 10, their sleep routines feel different during the winter than other seasons.
- A quarter of people have the most trouble waking up during the winter, more than any other season.
- While spring is the season most likely to make people feel happy (58%), respondents say they feel especially tired (21%) or sad (20%) in the winter.
- During the holiday season, people admit they’re more likely to cancel plans to stay in bed (48%), sleep (40%) and drink alcohol (37%).
- More than half (57%) experience the “winter blues” - “a feeling of despair or general upset caused by winter.”
- The top feelings people experience during winter are apathy (32%), general discontent (32%), loneliness (29%), mood swings (28%), loss of interest (26%) and anxiety (22%).
