The Siracha Shortage Has Bottles Costing You A Ton Now

Fans of Sriracha are suffering and there’s no end in sight. The beloved spicy sauce is becoming harder to find on store shelves and people are getting desperate. As a result, the black market is booming.

Prices for Sriracha are as high as $70 for a 28-ounce bottle on eBay and they’re even more on Amazon, where one seller is listing a 2-pack for $124. But is anyone actually paying that much? It’s hard to imagine they are, considering a 17-ounce bottle typically sells for around $5.

Huy Fong Foods, the company that makes the most recognized brand of the sauce in the U.S., the one with a green cap and the rooster on it, blames a shortage of materials. They have a limited supply of the chili peppers needed to make it, which has been going on for the past three years, and according to a spokesperson, “At this time, we have no estimations of when supply will increase.”
