Your Parents Probably Hated You. Here's Why

There is no way your parents could ever hate you....or is there. What did your parents think about your tv shows, movies, and the music you're/were into? Not much. A poll of 2000 parents with kids between 3-12 years old finds that most parents don't know a lot about the entertainment their kids listen to and watch. Which causes fights.

The survey results show:

  • Nearly half of the parents were familiar with the movies “Frozen” (43%) and “Moana (42%), but only 29% know of the popular Cartoon Network show “Steven Universe.”
  • In the music department, parents didn’t do much better. While 40% know about the infamous song “Baby Shark,” only a quarter (24%) of them were able to correctly identify the girl group Fifth Harmony from a photo.
  • And about half (47%) of parents admit they can’t stand their kids’ favorite tunes. (songs from TikTok included)
  • But the lack of knowledge between generations goes both ways, as parents also reveal that 6-12 year-olds were more likely to identify Adele’s hit “Rolling in the Deep” than The Rolling Stones (41% versus 28%).
  • While parents may not know a lot about their kids’ entertainment interests, 61% say they’re eager to learn more about their offsprings’ hobbies and interests.
  • And that’s a good thing because 63% of the moms and dads surveyed say their kiddos get excited when they take an interest in or show knowledge about something they like.
  • When it comes to sharing music with their kids, the artists parents like to introduce to them include The Beatles, George Strait, Michael Jackson, Foo Fighters, Sir Mix-a-Lot and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

What did you listen to or watch that drove your parents crazy? How about Blaze and the Monster Machines? Spongebob? What music did you love that made them crazy?
