Taylor Swift isn’t getting out of a lawsuit over her app The Swift Life, even though it is set to close by February 1st.
Back in July, Patrick Lloyd Yves Bénot, owner of a computer consulting company SwiftLife, sued the singer over the name of her app, claiming he trademarked SwiftLife back in 2008. He sued for trademark infringement and is seeking damages from the singer.
Well, The Blast reports Taylor’s legal team just tried to get the lawsuit dismissed, but a judge denied their motion. Her team tried to argue that he brought his claims against the wrong defendants, adding that Bénot didn’t even attempt to reach out to her people before filing his suit, something the law requires. They also claim his trademark doesn’t apply to phone apps, and since the company and the app are in different fields, nobody is going to confuse the two.
