Anyone who’s ever tried to lose weight knows it’s hard work and takes a lot of willpower, but that’s what makes those quick fixes we see on the Internet seem so appealing. Why would we want to suffer through eating nutritious healthy meals and exercising to see results when we could drink a detox tea, take magical supplements, or do a quick five-minute workout to lose weight? The only problem with those methods is that they don’t actually work, despite what they say online.
Personal trainer Max Weber wanted to set the record straight about these common weight-loss myths so he debunked them in an Instagram post about how to lose fat. He revealed six ways to lose weight, “according to the Internet.”
- Drinking "magic" detox teas
- 10-minute ab workouts
- Crash diets
- Using body wraps
- Endless cardio without strength training
- Relying on supplements
But Weber points out that a lot of these fads are just total bs and shouldn’t be followed. So what should you do do lose body fat? He suggests investing your time in these, the science-backed ways to lose body fat:
- Be in a calorie deficit - eat less than you burn
- Strength train three to five times a week
- Do some cardio
- Get quality sleep - between six and nine hours a night
- Be consistent - build those healthy habits
- Have patience - progress takes time
And remember, everyone’s body is different and burns fat at different rates, but there is no shortcut.
