Ed Sheeran has been hit with another copyright infringement lawsuit claiming that “Thinking Out Loud” ripped off Marvin Gaye's “Let’s Get It On.” Filed in U.S. District Court on Thursday, the lawsuit comes from the company Structured Asset Sales, which claims to own a portion of the song’s copyright. It's a separate lawsuit from the one brought by the heirs of Gaye’s co-writer, Ed Townsend Jr., in 2016. Both suits claim “Thinking Out Loud” rips off elements of “Let’s Get It On,” “including but not limited to the melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bass line, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping.” Structured Asset Sales’ claims one of Townsend’s sons sold his share of his father’s estate in 2003, giving them a stake in 'Lets Get It On.' The company is suing Sheeran for over $100 million.
