How Old Were You When You Got Your First Phone? What's Too Young?

How young is too young for a cell phone for a kid? Yes it's freedom for your kids, but does it open some doors you might not be ready for? Is it time for your kid to join the modern era and get their very first phone?

There are options so it's not embarrassing for your kid and they look dumb with their friends/classmates. Whether it was a flip phone, a BlackBerry (I miss you friend), or you skipped straight to an iPhone, we all remember the feeling of our first form of freedom from our parents. But how young is too young?

I found the numbers.

13-14 years old: This is their middle school glow up! Just old enough to text your crush and call mom for a ride home from the mall, a friends house, or when they want a drink on your way home from work.

16 years old: The driving age phone drop. THIS IS A BIG ONE Because parents didn’t want to hand over car keys without a line of communication. Smart move, duh.

10-12 years old: The “I walk home from school now” crowd. Safety first, but also they can still kill it on Minecraft and Roblocks. More games, and tons of YouTube videos...not quite a TikTok account, but still fun to watch.

18+ years old: The “I bought it myself” club (but somehow you still pay for it lol). Respect. You came into the world of phones with a job and a purpose. Time for you to learn how to pay for it

  1. Under 10 years old – Wait… what?! That brings us all to the same question we started with. How young is too young for a phone?

To put it lightly.. If they’re not potty-trained, they shouldn’t be on social anything. There are too many freaks out their feeding off the scared small children that are in our lives. I said what we said and I'm a tech guy. You can't wipe your own butt you don't need a phone.

How old were you when you got your first phone?
