In 2006, Gwilym Pugh was just a guy selling insurance from a spare bedroom in his London home. Gwilym was considering focusing more on the folk band he was in with a friend and during a haircut, his barber suggested that he grow a beard since he didn't really look like a musician. That's when things really changed for Pugh.
Gwilym heeded his barber's words and as his beard began to grow, he also decided to get back into shape. Over the next five years, he dropped nearly 100 pounds and documented the journey on Instagram.
That's where he caught the eye of modeling scouts, who signed him up with an agency. He wound up in a coffee table book titled 100 Beards and his career was off and running.
He's since appeared in ads for Vans, Bud Light and Diesel, and he's been in GQ. He's also the ambassador for David Beckham's men's grooming brand, House 99.
I have a beard. How come this didn't happen to me danggit?!
