Berkeley is not playing when it comes to health and progress. They plan on passing a policy that bans any type of junk with their new "healthy checkout ordinance". This policy states that "foods high in sugar and sodium" aren't allowed to be purchased from the checkout line at grocery stores. The measure is meant to take effect next March 2021 and enforcements with this policy will begin January 2022. District 3 Council Member Kate Harrison said, "We're not saying you can't have these goods. We're just saying they're not going to be right at the eye level of your children when they walk into the store and you're waiting in that long line at check out". Read more HERE.
