Sophie Turner knows how much being a single mother can be a struggle, especially as she navigates her new title following her divorce from Joe Jonas as she continues to parent their two daughters.

In a recent interview with the UK's The Sunday Times, the Game of Thrones alum shared how her own experience as a single mom impacted her new role in the upcoming TV series Joan, saying that she had she not been a mother herself, she didn't know if she could have brought "that same energy" into her portrayal of single mom Joan Hannington, per People.

"Its such a struggle being a single mother. Joan doesn't go about it in the best way... but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter," she said. "It's also really important for kids to see just how hard parents work for them."

Turner is a mom of two daughters, 4-year-old Willa and 2-year-old Delphine, whom she shares with her Jonas Brothers ex. The pair had a highly-publicized split after Jonas filed for divorce in September 2023, but they recently officially finalized their divorce earlier this month.

The actress also told The Sunday Times how her role as Joan, which she was filming around the time of the split, gave her "strength" during a difficult time in her life and the will to "fight" against certain forces.

"Joan changed me quite a lot," she said. "From utter desperation comes so much will and ambition. The series came around at a time in my life where I had to be ambitious and I had to have such strong will and fight against the forces. She gave me a lot of strength."

Turner previously opened up about the intense mom-shaming she experienced amid her divorce, breaking her silence on what she called the "worst few days of my life."
