The Selena Gomez-produced Netflix series “13 Reasons Why” has been getting a lot of criticism, with suicide prevention groups suggesting it could “trigger” folks with suicidal feelings. Well, Selena has now addressing the controversy surrounding the series.
“We stayed very true to the book and that’s initially what Jay Asher created was a beautifully tragic, complicated yet suspenseful story and I think that’s what we wanted to do,” Gomez says. “We wanted to do it justice and, yeah, (the backlash is) gonna come no matter what." She adds, "It’s not an easy subject to talk about, but I’m very fortunate with how it’s doing.”
The show has been such a source of controversy that several school districts have warned parents to be careful when it comes to the show, and to talk to them about suicide.
