Selena Gomez met with students at a Los Angeles high school last week, hoping to share a message of strength with girls involved in the Step Up organization, which promotes empowerment in young girls.
“I just hope they know that they’re worth more than an Instagram like, and they’re worth more than a comment on any other social platform,” she tells “Today." “There’s so much pressure now, especially for young girls, I just want them to feel like they are capable of doing anything.”
Selena also discusses her decision to be so open with fans about her personal issues, acknowledging that she actually “didn’t have a choice.” “I think a lot of people saw my life, whether I liked it or not,” she says. “I had two options: either I would succumb to what everyone was saying or assuming, or I could take that opportunity to be vulnerable with my specific audience...and I think that’s what I chose to do.”
