Lorde Insists She Didn't Slam Taylor Swift During Interview

Lorde is blasting reports that claimed she slighted her good friend Taylor Swift in a recent interview.

The interview in Australia’s “Sunrise” quoted her as saying “I don’t hang out with these people at all,” when talking about famous folks she’s met since releasing her debut album. She also rolled her eyes when asked about being part of Taylor’s “squad,” noting, “You know, you make friends in different places, but I think for the most part I’m not, like, calling my idols for advice necessarily.”

But later, Lorde took to social media to refute the interview, claiming those words were completely taken out of context. She says the “idols” she was referring to were stars like Patti Smith and David Bowie, not Taylor. “Taylor is a dear friend,” she writes. “I love her very much.”

As for the eye roll, that was more about the word “squad.” “I’ve always found the concept of the ‘squad’ idea frustrating,” she explains. “It was never some exclusive club or secret society but a wide circle of friends, some of whom I know, some of whom I never met.” She adds, “Forgive my eye roll. I popped when it was brought up as if we’re all blood members of some secret cult.”
